Connecting Science & Policy : Insights from the Consortium Meeting in Barcelona

The PLANET4HEALTH team recently gathered at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona for two inspiring days of in-person collaboration, followed by a high-level policy engagement conference.

Reflecting on Our In-Person Consortium Meeting (9–10 March)

When you work on something you truly care about, passion comes naturally, along with its share of complex questions, challenges, and technical hurdles. Our two-day gathering highlighted the real strength of our consortium: collaboration.

Partners shared impressive progress across all four PLANET4HEALTH case studies, bringing us a step closer to our core mission of understanding how environmental degradation impacts human, animal, and ecosystem health. A major highlight was receiving feedback from our External Advisory Board members, Barbara Gallani (European Food Safety Authority – EFSA) and Karl Hamilton (European Environment Agency – EEA), whose external perspectives brought immense value to our roadmap.

Bridging Science and Decision-Making (11 March)

Immediately following our team meetings, PLANET4HEALTH co-hosted a joint conference alongside the Erasmus+ project ENGAGEgreen Policy Engagement Toolkit at the UPF.

Designed to bring scientists and policymakers into direct dialogue, the event created an open floor to address today’s pressing environmental and health policy challenges. By sharing perspectives and exploring concrete tools, the conference helped strengthen the vital connection between scientific research and sustainable policy-making across Europe.

Two days of intense teamwork and one day of policy dialogue have left us motivated, inspired, and ready for the next phase of the project!
