Meet our Partners: Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety

AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety) provides expert assessments to Austria’s ministries of health and agriculture on a range of health and safety issues. Their work focuses on food safety, chemical safety, drug safety, and related public health concerns, ensuring that regulations are based on the best available science.

AGES role in the project

AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety) is actively contributing to the Planet4Health project through Case Study 3: Food Safety in Central Europe. In this case study, AGES is compiling and analysing data on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) exposure across Austria. Their work is focused on identifying the most contaminated matrices—specifically, drinking water, food, and food products—across the region. By examining these areas, AGES is helping to identify high-risk zones where PFAS contamination poses the greatest threat to public health.

About AGES

AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety) collaborates with Austria’s ministries of health and agriculture to provide expert assessments on issues concerning the health of humans, animals, and plants. Their work covers food, feed, and chemical safety, as well as drug safety and related medical issues. As Austria’s leading expert and research organization for risk mitigation, AGES plays a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of humans, animals, and plants, with a strong focus on food safety, food security, and consumer protection.

Quote about the project

“The PLANET4HEALTH project is set up to assess the role of PFAS and other chemicals over the past few decades and their implications for human health and the environment. It will help to develop innovative solutions to inform on contaminant risks along the food chain. Due to the international team of experts in this consortium, we figure this project will become a visible and productive one serving consumers alongside the other stakeholders.”
